When my friend and fellow musician Michael Miller started looking for ways in which to naturally deal with his sinus issues, he came across the Netipot. An ancient practice that is largely disregarded by a society reliant on pharmaceutical remedies for the majority of our ailments, netipotting is used to cleanse the sinus cavities through the simple use of water and salt. Shaped like a teapot, the netipot is used by simply by pouring the warm saline mixture through one nostril and allowing gravity to cleanse the nasal passages of the mucous that builds up from colds and allergies.
Originated in India as a practice of ayurvedic medicine, those that use nasal irrigation swear by it. Simple and natural, the process can be used to treat nasal ailments or simply as a daily cleansing practice. However, there have been instances where overuse of the practice can actually be harmful to your health.
I actually swear by doing this. I don’t do it often, but when I feel a cold coming on, or allergies starting to act up, this seems to cut it off and solve my problem. When I started doing it, I was using warm shower water do to this in the shower but I heard on the news that a woman using tap water got a parasite in her brain, so only use distilled water!!
OMGoodness a brain parasite?! I have to admit that I’m a bit leery of pouring water through my nose, but I’m glad that it actually works for some. Thanks for visiting and commenting Cindy.
