Why Pollution Counts: The Dollars and Cents of Green Living

Pollution is a serious matter, both from a health standpoint and from a financial standpoint. You don’t want to get sick from other people and big companies being careless with what they put into the air, water, and soil.

You want to do your part to help take care of the planet by recycling, paying attention to what chemicals you’re using and trying your best to avoid using items that can cause harm to the earth, the wildlife, and other people.

You also want to take a look at ways you could save both the planet and some money at the same time, because plenty of financially-helpful and earth-friendly options exist.

Here are some things to take note of when you’re considering pollution and the financial problems it causes.

  1. Pollution is never financially healthy. A lot of people think that the things they do only cause a little bit of pollution that doesn’t have a big impact on the environment. That may be true in theory, but when a lot of people think that, the little bits of pollution they cause add up to a large amount over time – and trying to get rid of it can cost millions in taxpayer funds.
  2. Pollution costs lives and money. People can and do get sick and die from pollution. That means that lives are being shortened and bank accounts are being drained because of the air and water pollution that is created in this country and others. Avoiding pollution of all kinds is impossible, but it’s important to avoid what you can.
  3. You don’t have to spend a lot to help the planet. Even if you think that you’re just one person and can’t make a difference, you can do your part. The more you find cost-effective ways to reduce pollution in your own life, the more of a difference you can make to health and finances.
  4. Pollution costs spread farther than you think. It’s not just people getting sick. It’s the cost of them paying doctors, nurses, medical billing specialists, and others for their care. If you trace it all along, you’ll find that there’s a huge chain of people that are affected by the pollution that gets into the air, water, and soil.

There are also people who are paid to try to remove the pollution or contain it, and the people who are paid to come up with pollution-free options.

Simple changes can mean big rewards. Even if you really can’t do much, you should do what you can- whether that be teaching others or learning about renewable energy to curve pollution, yourself. It’s the best way to show that you care about your own health, the health of others, and the future of the planet. Don’t give up or get discouraged, because all you can do is what you’re capable of.

Cutting down on pollution is part of a smart financial and health plan, and it’s easy to do your part. Don’t assume that you can’t do much, so you won’t bother to do anything. Even small changes can impact lives in a big way and help you save a lot of money in the process.
