“Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value.” – Albert Einstein
Everyone longs to strive for success. In all that we do, we would much rather endure the joys of success over the agony of failure. However, beyond success is value, when we not only accomplish our goals, but do so in a way that generates a change beyond just our own needs.
America has more millionaires than any other country in the world with 56% of our wealth held by millionaire households. In 2009, over 4.7 million Americans were millionaires, just over 4.1% of the population. It does not appear that we are lacking in success. However, how much value are we adding to the world?
In our personal lives, with all that we strive to accomplish in the race for success, how much of our energy is devoted to being of value to the community around us? Regardless of how much money we make or how many toys we are able to stock up for ourselves, our true value lies in the character we bring to our relationships and the lessons we teach to the next generation as they learn from our successes and mistakes. Our value lies in the communities we create and the infrastructures we develop. Our value lies in the spirit of harmony we bring to a world that longs for peace.
May you realize true value today in yourself and in those around you.
