Personal Sustainability: Different Strokes for Different Folks by Julie Urlaub
“Our greatest strength as a human race is our ability to acknowledge our differences, our greatest weakness is our failure to embrace them.” ~Judith Henderson
Personal sustainability often means different things to different people. Action can be sparked by a growth in eco awareness or a desire for personal improvement. Whether a person is just becoming familiar with the concept of sustainability or the individual is already living a sustainable lifestyle, personal sustainability is not a journey realized at the top of the mountain.
For those with broad eco awareness and who are well versed in sustainability concepts, living sustainably may be very different than someone just beginning to make sustainable life changes. By making changes that are inspiring and manageable relative to one’s current life, the process of incorporating sustainability concepts into personal living becomes a continuous process.
Viewing sustainable change from a personal perspective, a sustainable lifestyle becomes a more manageable pursuit. We encourage our clients to:
• Explore sustainability concepts which are most personally inspiring .
• Expanding your eco awareness on these topics.
• Shift to alternative choices and behavior changes.
• Allow achievement to inspire new sustainability interests.
By capitalizing on the power of inspiration and focusing on personal value drivers, the pursuit of a more sustainable lifestyle becomes a continuous personal development process. While we may each express personal sustainability differently, collectively, our eco actions add up. Our personal consulting works with clients to build a personal sustainability programs that adds value by expanding personal eco awareness and experimenting with sustainability concepts.
