“A person with a new idea is a crank until the idea succeeds.” – Mark Twain

Whenever we endeavor upon some new scheme, there are sure to be naysayers. There have always been, and possibly always will be those who will cling voraciously to the status quo while others forge ahead to find new and better ways of doing things. When Columbus set out on his journey to discover new trade routes, many thought him mad, but here we are in one of the busiest trade routes in the world. When the Wright brothers endeavored to fly, many thought them bonkers, yet now we’ve even invented the flying car. The list of visionaries who have been considered crackpots at one time or another is long and lustrous, and yet we now enjoy the spoils of their madness.

As we look forward to alternative energies, beyond the methods we have become so reliant upon for the last century, there are many today who think the advances we seek are a waste of time. Yet no progress can be made unless we push forward past the challenges and consider to seek the future we know awaits us. For those of us who envision a greener future where our energy is aligned with nature instead of against it, remember the advances that have been made to get us to this point and take heart that we are capable of much, much more.
