“I have no doubt that we will be successful in harnessing the sun’s energy…. If sunbeams were weapons of war, we would have had solar energy centuries ago.”  – Sir George Porter, quoted in The Observer, August 1973

Imagine how much more technologically advanced society might be if so much of our energy weren’t focused on waging wars and striving for domination. Imagine the progress and new creations we could have achieved were we not so consumed with defense and destruction. While thinking about the global ramifications might offer up just a bit too many possibilities to imagine, perhaps it would be more feasible and beneficial to bring it down to a more personal level.

In your day to day progress, how much of your mental energy goes toward creation and how much goes toward destruction? While we all want to build the best life possible for ourselves and our loved ones, we often find ourselves getting consumed with ideas of judgment, defense, and even revenge. Instead of focusing on the light in our lives and what good things it can bring, too often we get mired in the darkness.

Pay attention today to the light in your life and make sure that you are harnessing its energy instead of storing up weapons for your own personal wars.
