“Just go up to somebody on the street and say “You’re it!” and then run away.” – Ellen DeGeneres

One of the tragedies of adulthood is that we so often lose the ability to play. We get so mired in the responsibilities, schedules, goals, deadlines, and the daily grind that we forget one of the key reasons that we put up with it all – to have fun. We suffer our way through forty or so hours of workplace monotony with the intention of just making it to the weekend so that we can let loose. Yet because so much of our time has been given over to being a serious adult, even in our leisure time, we sometimes forget how to really have fun.

Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be that way. The myth that somberness is a prerequisite for adulthood is being shattered. It is our responsibility to shatter it. Bring some fun to your workplace and your daily routine. The enjoyment of life should not be limited to the times we’re not working; it should course through all of our moments.

The reason life has been given to us is so that we may enjoy it, find purpose in it, have fun with it, and play through every moment with the wide-eyed innocence of a child. It is through this method of play that we will discover deeper dimensions of the lives we thought we understood completely in our somberness. And we get to have fun doing it!
