“I’m fulfilled in what I do. I never thought that a lot of money or fine clothes – the finer things of life – would make you happy. My concept of happiness is to be filled in a spiritual sense.” – Coretta Scott King
Charlie Brown said that “Happiness is a warm puppy.” The Beatles sang that “Happiness is a warm gun.” Ever since people have been able to communicate, they have offered various definitions as to what happiness is. Yet regardless of what popular definitions arise, it is up to each of us to define the meaning of the word for ourselves. Almost as important as how we define happiness is how we attain it.
Though it may be cliché, the truth is that money does not buy happiness. You can’t even lease it. As a matter of fact, studies have shown that people who value money above other things are generally less happy than those who value the more intangible things like relationships, passion, and purpose.
Considering the emotional depression of the times has gone on longer than the economic recession, it seems that we still have a ways to go as a people to truly understand this paradigm called happiness and how to achieve it.
So I pose the question to you… how do you define happiness and how do you attain it?
