“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” – Thomas Merton
Whether we are creating it or appreciating it, the experience of art has the capacity to be a truly transformative experience. Through images, colors, sounds, and words, we are able to tap the unconscious, expressing the underlying truth of who we are and who we wish to be. Just as we are made in the image of our Creator, our creations are images of us – our dreams, our desires, and our darkness – a pictorial and symphonic emanation of our very souls. Art allows us to express what we cannot communicate through ordinary conversation and reaches us at a level beyond which we are even aware. Depending on the state of our soul, this can have positive or negative results. In this age of information, where art forms permeate every facet of our lifestyles, it is important that we become more aware of what we are expressing and what is being expressed to us. Guard your mind and be conscious of where it flows.
