Your Daily Groove – Redefining Beauty

“The perception of beauty is a moral test.” – Henry David Thoreau

All too often our society’s standard of beauty is gauged by whatever can be held by the staples in the folds of a magazine. We now poison our faces and surgically enhance our bodies to fit the mold of what we are told is beautiful. Yet happy are those who can find beauty in the misshapen, the wrinkled, and the abnormal. What we find beautiful in nature is what stands out, what is different and exotic. What a different depiction we would have of ourselves if we could gauge ourselves by the same standard. It is a severe untruth that beauty is only skin deep. For it actually originates in our hearts and emanates outward. However, it is all too often shielded by vision that has been diminished and cannot fully contain it.
