The Battalion Eco Couture: Spring 2010 Collection

Eco brands are no longer limited to the indie genre of fashion. There are now many high fashion eco brands like Sworn Virgins, Beau Soleil, and Gypsy 05 making a special niche in the fashion world. Another one of my favorite eco brands is The Battalion. It’s one of the younger lines but is growing increasingly popular with even celebrity clientele including Maggie Gyllenhaal and Ashley Olsen. The designers are sisters Chrys and Linda Wong whose mission is “to provide a modern, edgy comfort driven line for the women who is never satisfied being mainstream but rather a true bohemian with an eternal quest for personal style”.

The Battalion specializes in knits and woven fabrics that are eco-friendly, primarily bamboo, organic cotton blends, recycled polyester and some cruelty free “peace” silk. Each of their collections comes from a particular era or scene from a favorite movie or book. Their Spring 2010 collection, L’Atelier De Danse was gracefully and elegant similar to a ballet featuring dreamy textures like lace, organza, and feather-like angled razor fringe. The Wong sisters wanted their Spring 2010 collection to exude fluid, transparent movement similar to a dancer. They described it as basic but dreamy. Their attention to detail on what looks like basic everyday wear is what makes their brand unique and alluring.

One of my favorite pieces is the lace dress pictured below. It’s flowy, free and I love how the arms are transparent revealing the skin. It’s ultra feminine and sexy in it’s own regard; reminding me of what a dancer would change into right after a performance.  I also love the fit; it’s not intimidating and looks like it can be worn for many body types.
