Words to Live By – Living Deliberately

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” – Henry David Thoreau

If you’ve never actually been to Walden Pond, where Thoreau wrote his seminal book, do not worry. Each of us can find our own Walden just by taking the time to decide to live deliberately. Taking some time out to appreciate nature is a great way to start. Be it a forest, lake, beach, park, or even a patch of grass, communing with nature offers us the ability to slow down our senses and realize the beauty of simplicity.

walden-pondIf you can find that ease in an organic environment, continue to appreciate the simplicity in everything you connect with. So often we forget how amazing our technological advances are and what they enable us to accomplish. So often we overlook how blessed we are to have the relationships that we do. So often we let life just happen without taking the time to truly live it.

Schedule some time this weekend to commune with nature and let it teach you what it can about living deliberately.

When I saw this picture, my heart jumped as it looks so similar to a place where went a few years ago to live "deliberately" for a week.

Where is this picture taken from?

I couldn't agree with you more. As someone who was lucky enough to make my first visit to Walden Pond in October, and who was very deeply moved by the experience, I'd be honored to share my account with you and your readers: http://dcreflections.typepad.com/dc_reflections/2
