“Common sense is genius dressed in its working clothes.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
It truly amazes me sometimes that there is such a staunch opposition to the sustainability movement. Integrating renewable energy sources into modern life not aligns us more closely with the natural world, it is just plain old common sense. For as long as the planet exists, we will have sunlight, wind, and tides to give us sources of energy. The same cannot be said for oil, coal, and
nuclear power. As long as those antiquated methods are used, we can only be assured of dirtier air, more contaminated water, and ever-rising costs as the resources dwindle.
The only positive aspect to maintaining the current modes of energy creation through the use of oil, coal, and nuclear power is the convenience of remaining stagnant in the status quo. However, that comfort will only last for so long. Perhaps it is time to overcome our lethargy, put on our working clothes, and practice some common sense.
